  2. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  4. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software 
  5. before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue 
  6. using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs 
  7. differ on details -- some request registration while others 
  8. require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With 
  9. registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue 
  10. using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  12. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, 
  13. and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific 
  14. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished 
  15. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are 
  16. of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs 
  17. and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of 
  18. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy 
  19. and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a 
  20. specific group. For example, some authors require written 
  21. permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their 
  22. Shareware.

  24. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You 
  25. should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, 
  26. whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes 
  27. fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy. 
  28. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware 
  29. has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the 
  30. product, you don't pay for it.

  35. warranty: "'3 ball Juggler' is supplied as is.  The author 
  36. disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, including, 
  37. without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of 
  38. fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for 
  39. damages, direct or consequential, which may result from the use 
  40. of '3 ball Juggler'."

  42. "3 ball Juggler" is a "shareware program" and is provided at no 
  43. charge to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with 
  44. your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part 
  45. of another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is 
  46. to provide personal computer users with quality software without 
  47. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to

  51. useful and find that you are using "3 ball Juggler" and continue 
  52. to use "3 ball Juggler" after a reasonable trial period, you must 
  53. make a registration payment of $15 to John Gallant.  The $15 
  54. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one 
  55. computer at any one time.  You must treat this software just like 
  56. a book.  An example is that this software may be used by any 
  57. number of people and may be freely moved from one computer 
  58. location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it 
  59. being used at one location while it's being used at another. Just 
  60. as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same 
  61. time.

  63. Commercial users of "3 ball Juggler" must register and pay for 
  64. their copies of "3 ball Juggler" within 30 days of first use or 
  65. their license is withdrawn.  Site-License arrangements may be 
  66. made by contacting John Gallant.

  68. Anyone distributing "3 ball Juggler" for any kind of remuneration 
  69. must first contact John Gallant at the address below for 
  70. authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted 
  71. to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its 
  72. guidelines for shareware distributors, and such distributors may 
  73. begin offering "3 ball Juggler" immediately (However John Gallant 
  74. must still be advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-
  75. date with the latest version of "3 ball Juggler").

  77. You are encouraged to pass a copy of "3 ball Juggler" along to 
  78. your friends for evaluation.  Please encourage them to register 
  79. their copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered 
  80. users will receive a copy of the latest version of the "3 ball 
  81. Juggler" and additional printed documentation. You may also order 
  82. a copy of "5 ball Juggler" at a reduced rate when you register "3 
  83. ball Juggler". Both four and five ball juggling is covered in the 
  84. program. The regular price is $15 (US) for each program but both 
  85. programs can be purchased for a total of $25 (US) when 
  86. registering. "5 ball Juggler" is not available in shareware.
